If you’re considering kicking your outdoor living space up a notch with a new patio, you can be forgiven for feeling a little bit overwhelmed with the different roof styles and patio design options at your disposal!
Let's review the benefits of one of our patio design options, a free-standing patio.
Since a free-standing patio stands on its own and isn’t attached to a house or a building, it offers flexibility in terms of placement, size, and style of structure. Depending on your requirements, you can choose the design you want without needing to consider an existing structure.
It doesn't matter whether you want one with a flat roof or a gable roof – you can custom design it according to your taste. Don't want your patio to have walls? That's not a problem. While an attached patio typically has at least one closed wall, a free-standing patio can have either closed or open sides – it's all up to you!
Other patio designs require more work to attach the cover of your patio on the roof of your home.
Unlike an attached patio, a free-standing patio is easier to install because it’s supported by four posts that don’t rely on any other structure. Designed well, it can make a beautiful stand-alone addition to your garden.
The idea of a patio is to have an outdoor living space as an extension of your home. However, a patio that’s detached from your home is also a great way to enjoy the outdoors. After all, why build a small patio in a tiny space beside your home when you can build one elsewhere?
A free-standing patio offers comfort and extra space while giving you the freedom to modify it as you wish. One of the best things about free standing patios is that any changes you make on them won’t affect the home's aesthetic appeal since they’re not attached.
Since a free-standing patio is a standalone structure, you’ll have greater versatility in terms of design and roof style because it doesn't necessarily have to complement your home design.
Want a combination of two different styles? Then go for it. This patio also lets you add plants, hanging lights, and other decor that you think will work well with your outdoor space. From the materials, cover and colour, down to the decor, your choices are endless.
Q: Can a pergola be free standing?
A: Yes. There are pergolas with at least four posts and stand without being attached to any other structure, although there are limits to the span of their beams.
Q: How do I protect my patio from rain?
A: You can choose to add wall cladding to one or more sides of your patio, or look into an alternative, like patio weather curtains. These curtains are easily rolled down and made out of durable, marine-grade material that keeps out wind, snow, and rain keeping you and your patio belongings safe, whatever the weather. Talk to your local patio experts to see what they recommend for you.
At Fair Dinkum Builds, we offer patios that will work well with your outdoor space. With our quality workmanship and quality products, you can rest assured that your patio will be visually appealing and high performing for many years to come.
