Garage Kit Prices: How Much Does a Garage Kit Cost?
No Two Garage Kits Are the Same
Garage kit prices vary from one build to the next because no two kits are identical. When you buy a kit, you're paying for the steel parts that arrive at your property, ready for assembly. The kit price doesn't include the concrete slab, site preparation, council approval fees, installation labour, or delivery to remote locations.
Think of a garage kit as the steel structure itself, separate from the wider cost to build a complete garage. We've put together some baseline guidance on garage kit prices below, but these figures are a guide only and don't include any of the build phases like site prep or installation. As one of Australia's most recognised garage builders, we can absolutely handle the full build for you, but those services are quoted separately because there are too many variables to lump in with a kit price.
Your final kit price will vary depending on the size of the structure, the design choices you make, the finishes you select, and the wind region your property sits in.
Guideline pricing for common garage kit sizes
The garage kit pricing table below shows hypothetical examples of what kit-only pricing might look like across some of the more popular sizes, including single garage, double garage and larger configurations. Once again, these are starting points and reflect the kit only, not the slab, the install, or any extras.
| Garage kit size | Price starting from | What’s included |
|---|---|---|
| Single - 3x6m | $5,834 | x1 Series A Roller Door, 2 Side Bays, 11 Deg Roof, Corrugated Sheeting, Knee & Apex Braces |
| Double - 6x6m | $9,018 | x2 Series A Roller Doors with Motor, 2 Side Bays, 11 Deg Roof, Corrugated Sheeting, Knee & Apex Braces |
| Triple - 9x6m | $12,840 | x3 Series A Roller Door, 2 Side Bays, 11 Deg Roof, Corrugated Sheeting, Knee & Apex Braces |
| 4 car - 12x6m | $16,838 | x4 Series A Roller Doors with Motor, 2 Side Bays, 11 Deg Roof, Corrugated Sheeting, Knee & Apex Braces |
All prices are starting points based on Region A wind classification with a corrugated steel roof at 11° pitch and knee and apex braces. Pricing varies for higher wind regions, alternative roof profiles, custom finishes and any council approval costs. Figures are current at the time of publication and may change.

What's included in a Fair Dinkum Builds garage kit?
Every kit includes the Australian steel framing, wall cladding and roof sheeting, fasteners, flashings, anchors, and engineering drawings you'll need for council approval. Door hardware is also included, along with any optional extras you've chosen during the design phase, such as a single roller door, additional roller doors, windows, or personal access doors.
What isn't included in the kit price: the concrete slab, site preparation, delivery to certain regional locations, council application fees, and installation labour if you'd like a builder to assemble it for you. Those costs are quoted on top of the kit, based on your site conditions and what you need done.
What affects the price of a garage kit?
A handful of factors push the kit price up or down. Whether you're after a single car garage for parking and storage, or a larger double car garage with extra storage space, every kit Fair Dinkum Builds supplies is engineered around the site it's heading to. Here are the main things that shape the number on your quote.
Size and footprint
A bigger garage needs more steel, more cladding, and more roof sheeting, so the price climbs with the dimensions. A single garage kit will sit at a lower price point than a double garage kit, and a four-bay structure costs more again. Height matters too. Taller walls or higher roof apex points add steel and push the price up. Our garage dimensions and sizes guide covers the standard footprints if you're still working out how much space you need.
Single vs double (and beyond)
Single car garages are the most cost-effective entry point for those on a strict budget, and they suit one vehicle plus a bit of storage. Double garage prices step up because you're roughly doubling the footprint and adding a second roller door. Triple and four-door garages cost more again. If you're weighing up your options, our single garages vs double garages comparison breaks down what each layout actually gives you.
Roof design and pitch
Fair Dinkum Builds garage kits come with several roof options across 5, 11, 15, 22, 30, and 45 degree pitches, plus skillion, step skillion, eave overhangs and lean-to side walls. Gable and skillion are the most common, and our gable vs skillion comparison covers the differences if you're stuck between the two. A steeper pitch uses more steel than a flatter one, which lifts the kit price.
Doors, windows, and access
The number of doors and windows on your garage kit has a direct effect on price. A basic garage kit with a single roller door will be cheaper than one fitted with two roller doors, a personal access door, and a few windows along the side wall. If you'd like easy access from inside the home, an attached garage kit layout can be designed too.
Wind region and engineering
Where your property sits determines how the structure needs to be engineered. Coastal sites and cyclone-prone areas require heavier steel and additional bracing, which lifts the kit price. Inland sites in lower wind regions are simpler to engineer. Our shed wind ratings explained article covers the regions in detail and applies equally to garage kits.
Colour and finish
COLORBOND® steel comes in a wide colour range, with some shades sitting in a standard tier and others in a premium tier. You can browse our garages range to see the full selection. Mixing two or more colours across wall cladding, roof, and trims can also nudge the price.
Insulation and optional extras
Insulation isn't standard on most kits, so adding it lifts the price. The same goes for ventilation, skylights, awnings, mezzanine framing, lean-tos, and any internal walls if you're planning a workshop space inside. Each extra is priced individually. If you're considering a workshop layout, our garage with workshop page shows what's possible.
Delivery location
Freight is part of the equation. Kits delivered to metropolitan areas sit at the lower end of delivery pricing. Rural and remote deliveries cost more because the truck has further to travel and access can be trickier.
Design your own garage kit with our shed designer app
If you'd like to play around with options before requesting a quote, our Shed Designer App is the easiest way to see what your kit could look like. From your mobile or laptop, you can adjust the size, roof angle, colour, door and window placements, and any optional extras.
Take your time with it. There's no designer sitting opposite you waiting for an answer. Save your design and come back to it next week or next month. When you're ready, click through and your kit details will land with your local Fair Dinkum Builds expert for a personalised quote.
From kit to complete build, the choice is yours
Some buyers just want the kit. Others want us to take the whole project off their hands, from slab to handover. Both options work at Fair Dinkum Builds, but anything beyond the kit itself is priced separately and isn't part of the kit price you've been quoted.
Here's what we offer on top of the kit, should you want a Fair Dinkum Builds expert to take it further:
-
Installation by your local Fair Dinkum Builds team
-
Concrete slab pour and site preparation
-
Council approval applications and documentation
-
Electrical fit-out
-
Plumbing fit-out
-
Internal fit-outs and workshop layouts
If you'd like any of these services added, your local Fair Dinkum Builds team will quote them on top of the kit price. Want us to lay the slab but install the kit yourself? No worries. Want everything done for you? Same answer. The scope is yours to set.
Looking for more than a garage kit?
The pricing in the table above is a starting point. Your actual kit price will move depending on the size, design, finishes, wind region, and delivery location you settle on, so the only way to get a firm number is to request a site specific quote.
If you're after the kit only with no installation, no slab, no extras, we can still tailor it to exactly what you need and ship it out ready for assembly. If you'd like us to handle more of the build, flag it up front and your quote will include the services you want added on.

FAQs
Why aren't fixed garage kit prices listed on your website?
Garage kit prices shift based on size, wind region, colour selection, door and window choices, and any optional extras. Two kits with the same footprint can land at very different prices once the rest of the spec is added in. Quoting each kit individually is the only way to give you a number that actually reflects what you're getting.
Does the garage kit price include the concrete slab?
No. The concrete slab is a separate cost and isn't part of the kit price. If you'd like us to pour the slab as well, your local Fair Dinkum Builds team will quote it on top of the kit. You can also lay the slab yourself or use a local concreter, as long as it meets the engineering specs supplied with your kit.
Can I install a Fair Dinkum Builds garage kit myself?
You can, if you have the right skills and DIY experience. Kits are designed for self-installation and come with engineering drawings and assembly instructions. That said, most Fair Dinkum Builds customers go with professional installation through their local branch, particularly for double car garages and anything larger where the steel is heavier and the structural elements need precise alignment.
Do I need council approval if I'm only buying the kit?
Council approval depends on the structure itself, not who installs it. Even if you're buying the kit and doing the work yourself, you'll likely need approval based on the size, height, location on your property, and intended use. Rules vary by state, so check with your local council before ordering. If you'd like us to manage the application, that service is available as part of the full build.
How long does it take to get a garage kit delivered?
Lead times shift based on the kit specs, your location, current demand, and the time of year. Once your order is confirmed, your local Fair Dinkum Builds branch will give you a clear delivery window.
Can I add solar panels to a Fair Dinkum Builds garage kit later?
Yes. The Australian steel roof on your garage kit can carry solar panels, and many customers add them down the track. If you know up front that solar is in the plan, flag it during the quote stage so the roof design and structural elements can be checked against the panel load.
