Fair Dinkum Builds was proud to join the Australian Men's Shed Association (AMSA) at Parliament House in Canberra this week as part of Men's Shed Week 2026, celebrating the incredible contribution Men's Sheds make to communities across Australia.
The event coincided with the release of AMSA's latest National Impact Snapshot, which revealed the extraordinary value sheds deliver, not only to their members but to their wider communities.
Executive General Manager of Stramit, Aaron King, Fair Dinkum Builds General Manager Richard Gray and Franchise Operations Manager Kim Moran were all on hand at Parliament House to hear the positive impact of Men's Sheds in communities across the country.

The Ripple Effect of Men's Sheds

The research, conducted across 234 sheds representing more than 12,000 active members, found participating sheds collectively contributed more than 200,000 volunteer hours and delivered more than 3,300 community projects and activities over the past year.
These projects supported over 2,000 community organisations, including schools, sporting clubs, aged care facilities, veterans' groups, environmental projects, disability services and emergency organisations.

The findings also highlighted the personal benefits experienced by shed members, with:
98.8% reporting they felt more connected to others
95.5% saying they were more likely to learn or share skills
96.2% feeling more able to contribute to their community
84.5% reporting an improved quality of life since joining a shed
The research reinforces what many communities have long known: Men's Sheds are far more than workshops. They are places where friendships are formed, skills are shared and a renewed sense of purpose is created.

Supporting Spaces That Strengthen Communities

Fair Dinkum Builds has been a proud partner of the Men's Shed movement for over 15 years, and having visited countless Men's Sheds over the years and heard story after story of how Men's Sheds have helped transform lives, we understands the important role purpose-built shed spaces play in bringing people together.
Across regional, rural and metropolitan Australia, Men's Sheds provide a welcoming environment where people can connect, remain active and continue contributing valuable skills and experience to their communities.
AMSA Executive Officer David Helmers said the impact of Men's Sheds extends well beyond their walls.
"The story of Men's Sheds has always started with the men, but it doesn't end there. When a man finds mateship, purpose and a place where his skills are valued, that benefit flows through the shed and into the community around him."

A National Celebration at Parliament House

The Parliament House event brought together members of the bipartisan Parliamentary Friendship Group of Men's Sheds, AMSA representatives and shedders from across Australia to celebrate Men's Shed Week and share stories of the positive difference sheds have made in their lives.
For Fair Dinkum Builds, the event was an opportunity to recognise the incredible work being carried out by Men's Sheds nationwide and to support AMSA's ongoing efforts to strengthen communities through connection, skills sharing and volunteering.
